Big paintings

The big paintings always make bigger impression- I hope this one will do too:)

This is the biggest painting I worked on so far- 120x90cm (36x48 inches). Oil on boxed canvas.

Fragment of the painting
This is going to be a surprise present, so I can't post a full photo. Painting is still in progress. and when it is going to be finished and presented to the lucky person, I may acquire rights to post it online.

Happy paintings!

Newly married for 25 years

:) This is a commission I was asked to paint as a present for a 25th wedding anniversary. Here You can see both: the original photo and the photo of the painting. It was somewhat a challenge to do colors in the painting as the 25 years old photo does not the same detail as the 16 mega pixel digital photo... but it definitely was fun:) I really hope that the couple depicted have a great marriage and likes the painting:).

Painting famous people

After painting Angelina Jolie and sketching Kate Middleton, I decided to try some more famous people. It did turn out to be quite a daunting task, especially the choice of the person.

Here are my two choices:

Dagmara Legante, she is a famouse socialite in Latvija as well as Director of Communications at Luxury Boats North. Why Dagmara? Because was lucky to meet her in person in Cape Town while she was visitiong the country and I discovered what a fantastic personality Dagmara has! The portait is owned by Dagmara and I really hope she likes it;)

2. Justin Bieber, well, I guess we all know who Justin Bieber is:) Why Bieber? Because he had a concert in Cape Town in May and it left a big impression on the whole city- I was no different:) Bieber portrait is available for sale! You can buy this painting online or contact me directly to discuss other options.

Choosing the righ photo of the person was another challange! As I used photos that I could fing on the internet, they were not necessary the best quality, didn't give the right feeling or similar... So, photo choosing took me 30% of total time needed to do the painting.

I hope You enjoy the results:)

Have a fantastic day!!!

Sisters

I think This was more interesting for me than for the client:)

Here are two portraits that belong to the same family- they are sisters. And the common thing is not only that:

  1. paintings are painted from a black and white reference pictures;
  2. painted with limited color palette;
  3. Acrylic on canvas
  4. Size A3
Although there might be so many common things in these paintings they actually ended up to be quite different portraits.

What do You think?

PS. I'm going to be busy with tours for about a month, so no paintings for a while:(

Painting landscape

It's been a while since the last post and I have been busy, but not painting wise... However I have done a few portraits with landscape at the background. Although landscape does not require a precise representation (as oppose to portrait, where a minimal change can determine if the portrait will actually look like the person portrayed) it still takes a lot of effort and time to paint. The tricky part is to make landscape look 3-dimensional, where the lightest color and darkest color meet at the horizon.

All of these paintings are done with acrylic paint on canvas fabric.  In various sizes.

Painting horses

Horses are so amazing- huge, but gentle!!! They have so much power, but they would trust us to direct them. Well, most of the time:).

Ever since I remember myself, I have been bewitched by horses. I should thank the horses for getting me into sketching.  There are quite a few horse sketches that I still have at my parents place. Unfortunately I cant not put pictures of those sketches here, because my parents live in Latvia (Europe), but I'm in South Africa, but maybe I will do just that one day:)

Logically, when I started painting in April, 2010, I soon moved to painting horses. It was Bles in acrylic. the painting is owned by my friend Suz and Bleses owner. From there on, I have painted a few horses and each painting came out better then the previous:)

Condos Goliath (Mr Spots) is the last painting I painted - it is still drying on top of my fridge. This painting is for Goliath owner and my friend Alaine, who kindly allows me to ride this stunning horse!:) It came out so nice, that I might keep away from painting horses for a while, as I'm afraid I would not be able to do a painting better than this... hmmm, lets see how long is that fear going to keep me away from painting another horse:D.

Thank You for reading and have a great day everyone!
